Secret Book Santa Mini Reviews Part 1

For this season's picks for Secret Book Santa I chose all short books because I'm currently reading the Throne of Glass series and it's definitely hard to put down. So far I've read all but two of the books for Secret Book Santa.

Fall's Secret Book Santa Picks:
  1. Base Instincts by Larissa Ione
  2. A Demon and His Witch by Eve Langlais
  3. Hot As Hades by Alisha Rai
  4. The Mating Seduction by Bonnie Vanak
  5. Brink of Passion by Sondrae Bennett

A Demon and His Witch by Eve Langlais
Synopsis:
Burning alive is nothing compared to the heat of his touch. There are better ways to break up with a girl than having her roasted at the stake as a witch. Is it any wonder Ysabel has trust issues? She got her revenge, though, and it only cost her a slightly tarnished soul. Working for Lucifer isn't all bad, until her ex-boyfriend escapes the bowels of Hell and she's forced to team up with a womanizing demon to fetch the jerk back. As a minion in Lucifer's legion, Remy's seen a lot of things, but nothing can prepare him for the witch with the acerbic tongue - and voluptuous figure. The more she pushes him away, the more determined he becomes to seduce her. However, what's a poor demon to do when he accidentally falls in love and wants to keep her forever? Welcome to Hell where you're screwed if you do and damned if don't. And just so you know, Lucifer has a special spot reserved for you...

Review:
For the first "mini" review, A Demon and His Witch, was a good read. At first the book read as though it was going to be mostly silly jokes but once things got started the more serious topics came up, etc. The hero and the heroine bantered a lot, which was throughout the entire book. The bantering was amusing but the hero's Mother might of topped it, "maybe". She was a mixture of jaw dropping crazy and amusement. Lucifer was fairly amusing in this book too. He had his own agenda, of course, was afraid of his wife and somehow did a good job of playing matchmaker.

Hot As Hades by Alisha Rai
Synopsis:
It’s not easy being Hades. Constantly guarding his world against other meddling and ambitious deities is stressful work. So when a naked goddess falls directly into his lap, along with the news that he has to shelter her for the indefinite future, he is less than thrilled. Particularly since he can’t help but lust after the beautiful female. The Underworld isn’t the first place Persephone would pick for a vacation—who in their right mind would choose a dark palace over sunshine and flowers? Yet from Hades’s first touch, the dark, sexy ruler fascinates her and has her thinking a fling might be just the thing to while away her confinement. But trust each other? Not a chance. Until the day comes that Persephone must leave…and they realize that trusting each other is the only way they’ll ever meet again. Warning: Contains an arrogant god, a stubborn goddess, horny deity nookie and enough supernatural friction to set the Underworld on fire.

Review:
I "really" wanted to love this book. Persephone and Hades themed books can be really good. The first half of Hot As Hades wasn't very enjoyable to read. Persephone and Hades had personalities of little kids in my opinion. The second half of this book is what saved it for me. The characters became a bit more serious as did the rest of the book. This is a stand alone book but if it were a series I'm not sure if I would continue reading it or not. If anything might of given the second book a try before officially deciding.

The Mating Seduction by Bonnie Vanak
Synopsis:
Lexie Walters knows she’s in big trouble. Caught trying to steal her champion horse from the sexy werewolf cowboy who purchased the mare, she’s offered a devil’s bargain. Jackson Palmer will let her ride Diamond in an upcoming barrel race if Lexie spends seven nights in his bed. Desperate to win the rodeo prize money that can save her pack’s ranch, Lexie agrees. But there’s no way she’ll become his mate, no matter how much Jackson ’s touch arouses her. Ever since Lexie left for college Jackson Palmer has waited to capture the curvy Lupine werewolf’s heart. Now she’s back in his life and he’s determined to claim her. Only Lexie can tame his wild wolf side. If Jackson doesn’t find a mate in two weeks, he’ll get kicked out of the Mitchell pack. Lexie will do everything to resist Jackson ’s seductive charms. But she doesn’t realize there’s a far more serious threat than losing her virginity to this powerful and determined Lupine. Someone wants to prevent her from racing, only this someone will not stop until she’s off the rodeo circuit for good…

Review:
This is the third book in the Werewolves of Montana series and my absolute favorite of the series so far. I adored both the heroine and the hero in this one. The heroine had a strong sense of character and managed to pave her way through life even with her small disability, which saddened her greatly. The hero was always by her side when he could be. I thought that the "devil's bargain" in the book's description might of ruined the story a bit but it really didn't. The Mating Seduction had a little action, suspense, heartbreak and romance. Hands down the best book that I've read in this series so far!
